Adoption Information

Here’s How It Works:

If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, you must first complete an Adoption/Foster Application.

A $25 processing fee is required for all adoption/foster applications. The fee is non-refundable and does not guarantee future dog availability. It is needed to help us defray the costs of completing the application process.

When you click “SUBMIT” you will be prompted to pay the fee through PayPal (it will be dropped in your cart). If you do not have a PayPal account, please contact GRRSWF's Adoption Team at grrswf.adoptions@gmail.com. You will be contacted to take your credit card payment. Your application cannot be processed without confirmation of payment.

We will then do a vet check to be certain you have properly cared for any previously owned pets, and that will be followed by a home visit with a GRRSWF volunteer. During the home visit you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. We will discuss with you exactly what you are looking for in a dog, and what you have to offer to a dog.

Please understand that we typically have a significant waiting list and a dog you are interested in may have already been selected for another family. We recommend that you have some flexibility in the dog you want. It will likely mean we can place a dog with you sooner.

We do our best to match a dog whose needs and characteristics are compatible with you, your family and your lifestyle. If there are none available that you would like to meet, then we will keep your application on file and notify you as soon as one comes into the rescue.

When the dog comes to you, he will have been to a vet for a full examination, heartworm and intestinal worm checks, and, health permitting, brought current on all his vaccinations, micro chipped and neutered/spayed, if necessary. His foster home will have put him in a variety of situations to evaluate his responses and will provide you with detailed information on everything they’ve learned about him during his time in their home. Bear in mind however in some cases we know little or nothing of the dog’s history prior to coming into the rescue.

If the dog has been fostered then the foster home will stay in contact with you for the first couple of days following the adoption in order to help ensure his transition is as easy as possible for everyone. GRRSWF will always remain available to you and will happily answer any questions or offer any assistance we can.

Many of our dogs may already have had several homes. Our goal is to ensure that the adoptive home will be the dog's last.

We look forward to hearing from you and helping you find the love of your life!

PLEASE UNDERSTAND that we are all VOLUNTEERS, with full-time jobs and families - PLEASE ALLOW TIME for a volunteer to be assigned your application and to arrange their own schedule to make contact with you. If you do not hear from a VOLUNTEER by phone or email (other than the first email you should receive automatically in response to your online adoption application) within ten days, please email info@grrswf.org or call the rescue line (1-239-369-0415) and leave a message.
