Gage update (mid August):  Now that we have had him for a while we have a much better picture of this fun loving, enthusiastic boy.   First, we are coming to the conclusion that he is not a senior.  Judging from many factors we would put his age at more like 5-6.  No doubt he has had a rough life and it has taken it's toll on his poor body, but his spirit and strength are that of a much younger dog than we originally thought.

With his harness on, he no longer pulls on a leash. Gage has no bad habits. He loves to snooze on the couch, but also enjoys to play. He is  a wonderful and easy companion.

His coat is coming back in slowly but surely.  He is getting good nutrition now and also supplements like fish oil and Nupro.  It is definitely helping.  He is going to have a very nice coat when it all comes back.

He seems to get along with many dogs just fine.  He only seems to have a problem with dogs that challenge him.  He didn't care for a dog who was in a pen next to him.  We think Gage would adjust to almost any home, except one with alpha dogs.  He loves people in all sizes and just can't get or give enough loving.  He will bond very deeply with some lucky person who just gives him a chance.

Early Post:

Gage is a very happy, energetic, friendly and cuddly boy.  He was just as nice as he could be to everyone he met as he was transported down to the veterinary hospital for his evalualtion and treatment.  He has lost most of his coat from his shoulders back to his tail but it appears to be a treatable condition that will allow his coat to come back beautifully in 3-6 months.

The vet says he is around 10 years old as best he can tell.  He is very strong and just full of life.  He has obviously not been well cared for recently, but he is not under-weight.  Tests show he does not have thyroid involvement and that his skin problems are likely allergy related.  He is being treated for that.  Otherwise Gage seems to be in good health.

Gage likes everyone he meets.  He is good with other dogs and cats as long as they don't intrude on his personal space.  He will do best however, in a home without other pets.  He is very loving with people.  He will be a wonderful addition to some lucky family.
