Sandy was returned to the rescue by her adopter due to no fault of hers. Unfortunately she lived in a home where there was a very alpha female that Sandy would not submit to. She gets along with all other dogs and cats but has not been able to make peace with the other female and this occasionally caused fights between them. So the owner felt it was best to get Sandy out and give her a chance for a better life. Sandy is a sweet little 8 year-old girl who will do very well in just about any other situation.
_______________________________________________________________ Her Foster Home tells us, "Sandy is a very sweet velcro girl who is very under weight. She is a tall and lanky 3 year old mix. Sandy loves to snuggle with you and would do anything to win your approval. She is house broken, knows the sit and down commands. She gets along with cats and other dogs, male or female. Her most favorite thing is to chew up her leash, she has gone through two of them in just two days. I gave her another bath this morning with some good oatmeal shampoo and of course cream rinse. Her coat is very brittle from lack of good nutrition. She is a very easy dog to bathe. just stood right there loving every minute of it." This dog's former owners failed to provide a heartworm preventative so he/she is heartworm postive and will need to undergo treatment over the next three months. If you are interested in adopting a dog that has been treated for heartworm disease, but worried about the long term effects on its health, please know that these dogs can live normal healthy lives following treatment. We suggest that you consult your own vet to confirm this. Then don't be afraid to lose your heart to one of these dogs. You can learn more about this horrible disease from The American Heartworm Society at http://www.heartwormsociety.org/
All of our dogs stay in their Foster Homes for a minimum two week evaluation period, then remain there until their Forever Home finds them.
If you are interested in learning more about this dog, please contact us at applications@grrswf.org for additional information and an adoption application. PLEASE NOTE: We serve Southwest Florida from Naples to Sarasota, and sometimes slightly beyond if needed or possible. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs but live outside our usual area of operations, please us know as soon as possible; this will allow us to ascertain whether we have volunteers in your area who would be able to assist in processing your application, and may save you from completing an application that we might be unable to process. Unfortunately, there are some locations that we are simply unable to cover. Much as we would like to, we are unable to work with families on the East coast of Florida as we do not have sufficient representation in that area to perform the required home visits prior to the adoption, or follow-up visits afterward.
