Bailey: Appears to be about
3-4
years-old. He has what they believe to be a severe flea dermatitis on his back. He has significant elbow callouses but his nails are thankfully not as horribly overgrown. He weighs 47.9 lbs which is a little light for him but he is a small'ish dog.
Bailey and Truman were brought in to a local shelter on 04/28/10 in such poor shape that the staff took photographs to record their condition and scheduled them for euthanasia. Thankfully, one of our fantastic members was made aware of their existence and was able to stop the death sentence and sign them out to GRRSWF. Jeanine went to the shelter that night to make sure they were safe until our Transporter could be there the following morning and this is what she told us, "I was flipping out when I go there since they were still cleaning up from the "kill" and there were dogs (already passed) all over. Truman and Bailey were terrified when I got there and they kept staring at the other dead dogs. It made me SICK. Truman stayed hiding behind Bailey and was very very scared. I cannot blame them for being frightened since we literally pulled them from facing the same fate." UPDATE 05/03/10: We received the following update from the boy's Foster Home: " They are just the sweetest little dogs. They have obviously been together for some time. It would be great if we could adopt them both to the same family. They seem very dependent on each other. But they are outgoing, lovable dogs, Truman is the leader, Maverick a little more shy. Truman is the white face (though not an older dog by any means - don't let the white face fool you). They are both relatively young dogs. I'm guessing Truman is perhaps 4-5 years old and Maverick 2-3. Truman is a patchy mix of white and cream color. Maverick is more tan colored. They have both been recently shaved. I'd like to see them when their coats come back. They will look a lot more Golden but they are small. They are in pretty good shape with only minor medical issues to resolve. They are HW- and neutered. They seem low maintenance though Truman doesn't like being alone. He barks when he is not with people. He did it at the vet's office and here. But they get along great with our dogs and our cats too. Although they are not pure Golden (and so won't appeal to the Golden purists out there) they are very nice dogs and should adopt quickly to anyone looking for warm and loving companions." While Bailey loves cats, Truman can NOT be adopted to a home with cats.
