About Jake

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Tan
  • Housetrained: Yes
Jake is a three year old neutered male whose former owner couldn’t keep him as she was moving out of state and was unable to take him with her.
He is great with kids, other dogs, cats, car rides. Jake is housetrained and has excellent house manners. He enjoys cuddling with his people and playing with his housemate dogs.
Jake is a very sweet boy who loves to please. He does need some work on his commands – he knows them but isn’t always sure that you really mean it. His foster home is also working on that and his walking on the leash as he does pull, but he has a harness and is learning quickly. As we said, eager to please.
He is a more active dog and will need a family that can spend some time playing and walking with him every day. He is also a large Golden, weighing in at a healthy 98 lbs. He is exuberant and can be a bit boisterous; there's still some of the puppy in Jake but he is coming to understand that some behaviors, such as jumping on people, are unacceptable and he very much wants to do what makes his people happy.
Jake will need a family that will be consistent and firm with him - this will allow him to continue to mature into the wonderful dog that we are already seeing so much of. A condition of his adoption will be that his new family take him to an obedience course ... this is a great bonding experience and will teach both Jake and his new family how to have the very best relationship with each other.
We think that Jake would love to be with kids; he's the kind of dog who should have his very own kid to grow up with, the kind of dog every kid to should have to grow up with.
His former owner had shaved his coat down and it is still in the process of growing back in, but he is a beautiful light to medium blond and we expect him to be absolutely stunning when he has a full coat.
Jake came to us on 09/29/09 and and entered one of our wonderful foster homes for evaluation and lots of love on 10/07/09. All of our dogs stay in their foster homes for a minimum two week evaluation period, then remain there until their forever home finds them.
If you are interested in learning more about Jake, please contact us at applications@grrswf.org for additional information and an adoption application.

We serve Southwest Florida from Naples to Sarasota, and sometimes slightly beyond if needed. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs but live outside our usual area of operations, please state that in your initial contact with us. This will allow us to ascertain whether we have volunteers in your area who would be able to assist in processing your application; unfortunately, there are some locations that we are simply unable to cover.
