About Jake

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Golden/Chestnut
  • Housetrained: Yes
Jake’s story is a tragic one – his owner was murdered and the family was devastated at being unable to keep Jake and his housemates. He comes to us with two sisters. The family wants to make sure that he finds a wonderful home who will love him forever, as his former owner would surely have done; GRRSWF is committed to honoring those wishes in full.
He comes from a home with three other dogs so we know she does just fine with other dogs. Jake is about 5 years old and, other than being somewhat underweight, is a healthy boy. He has obviously been well-loved and well cared for. He is a friendly, outgoing boy who loves to meet people – his caregivers at Animal Services described him as a social butterfly. His foster mom tells us, “He is so sweet and an easy keeper.”
Jake is currently in one of our wonderful foster homes where he will stay for a minimum two-week evaluation.
If you are interested in learning more about Jake, please contact us for additional information and an adoption application.
UPDATE 08/01/09: Jake’s foster mom tells us: He is basically a happy playful guy. he and Charlie love to play tug of war and wrestle. With me he is velcro. He is basically a lap dog in a goldens body. He loves to cuddle and crawl up into your lap. He would love to sleep in the bed if we let him but with 4 dogs that wouldn't work. I want to make sure he goes to someone who will give him the cuddly affection he loves and not be afraid to snuggle up with him on the sofa and watch a movie. Sounds funny I know. Once he gets his snuggles in he is happy to go take a nap with the other pups. He is a very happy member of the pack.
Last weekend we learned about the pool. He is a very good swimmer and once he learned how to use the steps he got right in with me in the pool. He likes to retrieve the floating bone. He has not tried to go in without me or the dogs even though we are out there a lot.
So, in summary, Jake needs a MOMMY (he is a huge mommas boy and a dad would be an added bonus), she needs to enjoy being shadowed and snuggled frequently, and enjoy walking and swimming, and of course there needs to be at least one other doggie for wrestling and playing!
UPDATE 08/25/09: We will only be considering homes for Jake that have an active dog, preferable around or under his own age, for him to play with.

We serve Southwest Florida from Naples to Sarasota, and beyond if needed. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs but live outside our usual area of operations, please state that in your initial contact with us. This will allow us to ascertain whether we have volunteers in your area who would be able to assist in processing your application. We very much want to help everyone who is eager to adopt a rescue dog and we do have some amazing volunteers in areas well outside Southwest Florida who are willing to do home visits, but there are some locations that we are simply unable to cover.
