About Hunter

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Golden/Chestnut
  • Housetrained: Yes
Hunter is a very healthy, good looking one and a half year old male, weighing in at 72lbs. He still has a lot of puppy in him and proved too much for his former owners. With the proper training and outlets for his energy, he is going to be a wonderful companion for some lucky family.
He is a very friendly boy, somewhat timid at first with new people, but warms up quickly. He is afraid of almost everything outside and, as a result, he tends to bolt when taken out; which is what he did recently, in the process he tore his paw pads quite badly which is why you see the bandages on all four paws – they will heal up just fine, he has painkillers to help with that and he has some medications to calm him down while we work on his fears.
He does settle down inside however when he knows he is in a safe place. He is in one of our wonderful foster homes now and is doing very well with all three of their Goldens and their cat. He just seems to get very spooked by things outside.

UPDATE 07/03/09: We’ve learned that in addition to Hunter’s pads being torn during his wild run, all the nails on all his paws had been cut back as far as possible into the quick; the pulp is exposed on them all. This is not damage done when he ran, they are all clean cuts. Obviously this was done deliberately with clippers and certainly accounts for some of Hunter's pain, not to mention his fear; this must have been excruciatingly painful for him. In spite of this, he continues to charm his foster dad and is a true gentleman with his foster siblings. He was introduced to the pool today and took to it ... well, like a Golden to water. We're hoping that keeping him busy in a fun-filled way while exposing him to an outdoor environment will help conquer some of his fears in an enjoyable manner.
