Carter has been with us for a few weeks now but, due to the truly horrible condition he was in, is only just reaching the point where he may be ready for adoption.
Carter came from a very high kill shelter. He was taken from the owner on cruelty charges. Poor Carter did not weigh 50 pounds due to malnutrition. The horrifying picture attached is of Carter on the day he came to us, the others were provided by his foster home six weeks later. As you can see, he is still thin but looking so much better and most definitely a happier dog.
He is really a sweet boy about 4 or 5 years old. He needed some leash training but is housebroken and bonds very quickly with people. What we keep hearing from everyone is that Carter is so sweet. He is definitely a true leaner - he is so happy just pushing up against your leg. He is very well behaved and rides beautifully in the car.
Carter is currently in one of our wonderful foster homes for evaluation and lots of love. All of our dogs stay in their foster homes for a minimum two week evaluation period, then remain there until their forever home finds them.
If you are interested in learning more about Carter and giving him the kind of life & love he so richly deserves, please contact us at applications@grrswf.org for additional information and an adoption application.
We serve Southwest Florida from Naples to Sarasota, and sometimes slightly beyond if needed. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs but live outside our usual area of operations, please us know as soon as possible; this will allow us to ascertain whether we have volunteers in your area who would be able to assist in processing your application, and may save you from completing an application that we might be unable to process. Unfortunately, there are some locations that we are simply unable to cover. Much as we would like to, we are unable to work with families on the East coast of Florida as we do not have sufficient representation in that area to perform home visits prior to the adoption, or follow-up visits afterward.
