Bear is a big lover of a three-year old boy who came to us from a local animal shelter. He is a huge cuddler and just loves to be around people. He is also quite a ham for the camera, as you can see.
Sadly, Bear's former owners did not give him the care he needed and he is infected with heartworm. He will need to undergo the painful, long and expensive treatments before he is ready to be adopted by his Forever Family. We expect him to have his first treatment in late March so he should be ready to go by early May. If you are interested in adopting a dog that has been treated for heartworm disease, but worried about the long term effects on its health, please know that these dogs can live normal healthy lives following treatment. We suggest that you consult your own vet to confirm this. Then don't be afraid to lose your heart to one of these dogs.
Bear is otherwise a very happy, healthy boy who has been busy winning the hearts of all those at our vet's office and all volunteers who have met him. He is settling into his Foster Home beautifully and is playing well with the other dog in the home.
Bear came to us on 03/02/10 and is currently in one of our wonderful foster homes for evaluation and lots of love. All of our dogs stay in their foster homes for a minimum two week evaluation period, then remain there until their forever home finds them. Bear will stay in his until the heartworm treatments are complete.
If you are interested in learning more about Bear, please contact us at applications@grrswf.org for additional information and an adoption application.
We serve Southwest Florida from Naples to Sarasota, and sometimes slightly beyond if needed. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs but live outside our usual area of operations, please us know as soon as possible; this will allow us to ascertain whether we have volunteers in your area who would be able to assist in processing your application, and may save you from completing an application that we might be unable to process. Unfortunately, there are some locations that we are simply unable to cover. Much as we would like to, we are unable to work with families on the East coast of Florida as we do not have sufficient representation in that area to perform home visits prior to the adoption, or follow-up visits afterward.
